An NPR interview following up Michael Pollen’s article: Out of the Kitchen, Onto the Couch, where he identifies our lack of cooking with the increase of cooking shows on TV.  Listen in.  He will further the conversation with discussing such topics as:

1. How America was turned on to fast food like cake mix
2. How the evolution of cooking formed our human identity
3. How obesity rates relate to the amount of time people take to cook
4. How cooking shows are structured like a professional football game
5. How cooking may look like CRAZY behavior to our next generation

About 30 of Senn’s Freshman were commited this summer to building organic gardens on Senn’s school grounds.  I was invited by We Farm America, the head of the gardening project to join the fun and talk about SUGAR! I spent two hours with them and together we answered:

1. How much sugar really is in our favorite foods like:  Gatorade, Soda, and Vitamin Water?
2. How much sugar does the average America really consume everyday?
3. What happens when we eat too much sugar?
4. How do you read a label to know if there is sugar in it and how much?
5. What foods are better choices for satisfying our sweet tooth?

The kids tried Coconut Water and Raw Honey for the first time.  We also whipped up No-Bake Chocolate PB Sesame Balls and enjoyed eating them outside by their new gardens, while we made goals on how to add better sugar choices into our diets.

I will be speaking again at Senn High School on an array of health topics with teachers, parents and more students this coming school year!
